Winter Draws On

What’s that you say?

Winter draws on?

The nights are cutting in,

Each day darkness falls a little earlier.

Imperceptible at first but before you know it,

It’ll be dark at half past three.

You’ll have the heating on and

Maybe a blanket on your knees.

Your warm clothes are aired,

A thick sweater ready to be worn.

The bed has more blankets now and

At bedtime you’re in your warm PJs.

Halloween will come and go,

Thanksgiving too, in the USA.

Then Christmas and all that it entails

Overtakes you, until boom!

New year has rocketed by and

It’s Easter in the blink of an eye

And the countdown starts again

Until, once more Winter draws on.
